TranslationChain Poem by =chakrabird:iconchakrabird:

Hjemve

”Græd aldrig foran dem”
sagde min mor. ”Det bekymrer mig.”
Mens jeg går min vej og tørrer flængen af,
opfører mine ben sig dumt,
mine ben, lysende som stenens overflade.
Fra mine tomme hænder
tager læreren lyset,
og de andre børn ler.

Bag stjernernes arme
leger de i haven, solrig og varm.
Men jeg bliver her, det har min mor sagt.
Under vinduet svømmer fiskene, bag glas,
frem og tilbage.
De følger bare deres egen historie.

Med en finger føler jeg vandet.
Nu med en finger mere.
De springer rundt i vandet, står ikke stille.
Mine øjne tørrer.
Vand flyder over min krop.
Øjenlågene lukker mine øjne.
Jeg ånder.
Jeg ånder.
Jeg ånder.

This is a Danish translation of an original poem called "Homesick" by Sally Shepherd: *salshep It's a contribution to the TranslationChain: [link]

In this fun project 25 people one after the other translate this poem and then pass it on to the next person on the list. We're only allowed to follow the translation that has been passed on to us when translating and at the end of the chain we will see how much the poem has changed on it's journey.

I'm number 20 on the list and I've been translating from German made by ~malicedomestic to Danish. I've been looking back on some of the earlier translations and when comparing to the first couple of translations I can see the poem has already changed quite a bit, here and there lost the original meaning. Very interesting to see..

That sounds like a really fun and interesting activity! Sadly, I can't translate from the Dutch. :P If it were Japanese to English, I'd be there!

Just keep an eye on *TranslationChain to see what project they come up with next. Then you can sign up with the languages you know and be put in the next chain. :-)

Thanks, I don't always feel so, because I do make grammatical mistakes, especially when tired, and feel that my vocabulary is more complex when reading than writing or speaking, but yeah, I guess it works.. :-)
