The first of a series. The original idea came from norse mythology and the ravens Hugin and Munin, meaning Thought and Memory, which sat on the shoulders of Odin and flew back and forth with news and whispered into his ear. They were birds of wisdom and a picture of his soul and mind, but also of death and destruction following him to the battlefields to devour from the corpses of the fallen warriors.

This image was born to tones from P.J.Harvey, Arcade Fire, Muse and Metallica. I might rename it later, but right now my mind is :|

Awesome picture.
I like all of the meaning behind it, too.
What Muse were you listening to?

Very nice work! I like the a dark athmosphere and it feels like its telling a story about something ..

I never heard the story about hugin and munin but I began to draw two ravens some month ago because I want them as tattoos on the front sides of my shoulders. they should have a simbolic meaning for my art changes, memories and my thoughts .. something like that.
Very interesting!

Thanks a lot, I'm glad you like it.

Interesting that you had the same idea as the norse mythology, but perhaps there's something about those birds, or birds in general, that makes us think that way. I wrote a bit about norse mythology and also the ravens here if you're interested: [link]

Good luck with the tattoo :-)

I know you posted this forever ago, but I only looked at it now. ^^; However, I have to comment because I like it so much. I like it as a whole, but particular details that catch my attention include the subtle blending of subdued shades, the way the human figure dissolves into spirals, and the tree motif at the top. The mythological theme doesn't hurt, either.

Out of the pieces you've done, I think this is one of my favorites.

Ha, I'm way behind on things in the message centre as well :D Thanks a lot, I'm really glad you like it. I started working on another piece in this series a while ago but got a little stuck. I hope I will be able to finish it.
